Before our first session, we start with a short phone call where we assess the broad terms of your matter.
After this, we arrange for our first session, where we can get to know each other in person, talk through your general wishes and information and define your goals for your therapy. These goals will be our defining line through our process, and we´ll align our work towards them as much as possible, refining them in the process. In this session, we also define the surroudning conditions of your therapy, such as how often we should hev our sessions.
One of the central parts of psychological therapy is developing a common understanding of the problem you´d like to deal with- how it developed, how exactly it presents itself, and how it ismaintained in your living situation.
This as well as your goals is the basis on which we build your personal therapy.
Personally, I highly value transparency and working together as equals. You decide which steps to take and when in order to further your goals. All methods and techniques are only used after talking through them together, so that you can make informed decisions about your process in therapy.
Concerning the length of therapy, there are unfortunately no hard and fast rules that can be applied. Every person and every problem are unique, so that more or less time might be necessary in order to arrive at a satisfying end of the process. However, as a therapist, I subscribe to the idea of using therapy as long as necessary and as short as possible.
